Night Skies in the Joel N. Bloom Observatory

January 8 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$10

The Franklin Institute pays tribute to David Bowie on the birthday of the late singer, songwriter, and actor with a special Philly Loves Bowie Week edition of the popular monthly stargazing event, Night Skies in the Observatory. Celebrate Bowie’s legacy overlooking Philadelphia, a city so famously instrumental in the tremendous success of his career. Hosted by Chief Astronomer Derrick Pitts, who also delivers the evening’s special presentation, the event features themed activities, stargazing opportunities, Planetarium shows, and a cash bar featuring the specialty cocktail “The Gin Genie.”

Bowie themed activities to supplement Night Skies programming include:
Starman—Discover the truth behind the asterism named after the Starman himself during this aptly-named interactive piece.
Ziggy Stardust—From your pet dog to the car you drive, learn how everything around us came from a galactic collision of the elements.
Life on Mars—Learn about the extremophiles that inhabit some of the most extreme locations on Earth, and possibly other places in our universe.
New Killer Star—Make your own commemorative Night SkiesBowie pin
